AI adoption accelerates across Latin America as agents move into business
Artificial intelligence is moving rapidly from experimentation to everyday business use across Latin America, with 71% of corporations surveyed now using AI in at least one team or function. The findings point to a significant shift in the region as companies increasingly deploy AI for productivity, customer service, finance and internal operations.
From experimentation to implementation
The latest State of AI in Latin America research from Mexico-based venture capital firm Hi Ventures shows that another 23% of corporations use AI for individual productivity, while only 5% have yet to explore the technology.
The transition towards AI agents is particularly significant. These systems can perform tasks, use digital tools and make limited decisions rather than simply generating text or answering questions.
Startups move faster
Latin American startups are adopting agentic AI particularly aggressively. Around 53% of startups surveyed already have AI agents operating in production, compared with 30% of established corporations.
AI penetration among startups is almost universal: 99% use the technology internally, while 78% have incorporated AI into their core products.
Chile leads regional readiness
Chile currently leads the region’s AI readiness ranking with 72.5 points, followed by Argentina at 71 and Brazil at 70.2. Mexico scores 67.5, while Colombia remains further behind at 53.1.
Brazil recorded the strongest year-on-year improvement, reinforcing its growing importance as a regional technology and AI infrastructure market.
Talent becomes the critical constraint
The principal obstacle is increasingly not access to AI itself, but the availability of skilled people capable of implementing it effectively. Data privacy, system integration, computing costs and reliability also remain significant concerns.
Meanwhile, 78% of corporations surveyed either have a formal AI governance framework or are developing one.
The figures suggest Latin America is entering a new stage of AI development. The question is no longer simply whether companies will adopt artificial intelligence, but how quickly they can turn widespread adoption into measurable economic productivity.
