Access Bank has launched an AI-powered application designed to help Nigerian small and medium-sized enterprises manage their operations more efficiently. The Access SME App brings sales, stock levels, staffing and other daily business information into one platform.
Built around entrepreneurs’ needs
The bank unveiled the application during its first SME conference in Lagos. Access Bank said it developed the service after hearing that many existing digital tools were either too complicated or designed primarily for larger companies. Business owners can monitor operations remotely and obtain a clearer, real-time view of company performance.
Less administration, better decisions
The platform could reduce the administrative burden on entrepreneurs who often handle accounting, marketing, customer service and inventory without specialist teams. By organising operational data and automating routine work, AI tools may help owners identify problems earlier, respond more quickly to customers and devote additional time to expansion.
A wider digital push
Nigerian government representatives attending the launch encouraged smaller companies to treat AI as a practical business tool rather than technology reserved for large corporations. Wider adoption could strengthen productivity and competitiveness across a sector that plays an important role in employment and economic activity.
Execution will determine the impact
The application’s value will ultimately depend on affordability, ease of use and the quality of its AI functions. Data protection, reliable connectivity and training will also be important. If these challenges are managed effectively, the Access SME App could become a useful example of how African financial institutions can bring advanced technology within reach of smaller businesses.
