The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping ended on Friday with a two-month extension of their trade truce and a commitment to continue talks. More time for trade negotiations

The leaders also discussed artificial intelligence and the wider relationship between their countries. Xi described the relationship as one of strategic stability, while both sides indicated an interest in continuing dialogue on AI. No major joint initiative was announced.
Taiwan remained a point of disagreement. Xi pressed the US over its position on the island, while the summit produced no public change in Washington’s policy. Trump said the two leaders discussed Iran, but provided few details about that exchange.
The three-day visit concluded with tea at the White House and a tour of the National Archives. Both leaders spoke positively about the meeting, and Trump said he expected to meet Xi again later this year. Its clearest result, however, was time: the trade truce has been extended, while the harder decisions have been left for further negotiations.
