South Korean shares opened decisively higher on Tuesday, staging a powerful rebound after the previous session’s technology-led sell-off.
The Kospi jumped by approximately 4% in early trading, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix among the principal contributors. Both companies had suffered heavy losses as investors reassessed the high valuations attached to artificial intelligence and semiconductor businesses.
The recovery reflected renewed buying across the technology sector, supported by hopes that the latest decline had created attractive entry points. The Kosdaq, which includes a larger proportion of smaller technology and growth companies, also strengthened.
Despite the rebound, Seoul remains one of Asia’s most volatile major markets. The Kospi’s concentration in semiconductor companies makes it particularly sensitive to changes in global demand, chip prices and expectations surrounding artificial intelligence investment.
Investors will closely follow forthcoming results from major American technology companies for indications of whether demand for advanced processors, memory products and data-centre infrastructure remains strong.
