The most powerful person in the emerging AI economy may not be a professor, programmer or machine-learning specialist. It may be an ordinary person who begins working with artificial intelligence every day — questioning it, correcting it and gradually learning how to turn a conversation into genuine productive power.
The new expertise is learned through interaction
When people complain that “AI misunderstood”, the technology may indeed be wrong. AI can hallucinate, overlook context and deliver confident nonsense.
But frequently, the user asked an imprecise question, supplied insufficient information and abandoned the process after one disappointing response.
The skilled user behaves differently. They clarify the objective, provide context, introduce documents, challenge assumptions and demand another attempt. Through hundreds of these exchanges, the human learns how to direct the machine.
This is not prompt engineering. It is a developing working relationship.
Experience may outrun credentials
Emerging research into human–AI collaboration indicates that practical experience is a major driver of AI capability. People become better by working with the technology, observing its behaviour and refining their own methods.
Formal expertise still matters. Doctors must understand medicine and lawyers must understand law. AI researchers will remain essential for building, evaluating and governing the systems.
But understanding how an AI model is constructed does not automatically make someone the best person to use it for operating a business, organising a humanitarian project or solving a local agricultural problem.
The ordinary user possesses something equally important: the real objective, lived experience and continuous feedback from reality.
Intelligence has acquired a universal interface
Previous technological revolutions usually required capital, infrastructure or specialised training. Generative AI is different because its interface is ordinary language.
A shopkeeper, farmer, student or entrepreneur does not need to programme the machine. They can explain what they are trying to accomplish and improve the collaboration through dialogue.
This could allow millions of people to access analytical, creative and organisational capacity previously available only through companies, consultants and professional institutions.
Curiosity becomes economic power
The new divide may not run between highly educated and poorly educated people. It may separate those who continue experimenting from those who dismiss AI after its first mistake.
One person says: “AI does not understand.”
Another asks: “What information is missing, and how can we solve this differently?”
That difference appears small. Multiplied across years of increasingly capable AI, it could become enormous.
AI experts will build the machines. But ordinary people who learn to grow alongside them may lead the revolution.
