Indian dairy producer Milky Mist has set a price range of ₹133 to ₹140 per share for its forthcoming initial public offering, targeting a valuation of approximately ₹107.78bn, equivalent to $1.13bn. The Tamil Nadu-based company will begin accepting investor subscriptions next week after reducing the size of the offering following a pre-listing investment by Singapore’s Temasek.
Offering reduced after Temasek investment
Milky Mist plans to raise ₹15.53bn, or approximately $163m, through the IPO. The company had previously proposed an offering worth ₹20.35bn but reduced the amount after completing transactions with Jongsong Investments, a subsidiary of Singapore’s state-owned Temasek.
Jongsong acquired approximately 5.2% of Milky Mist through a combination of newly issued shares, convertible preference shares and stock purchased from founders Sathishkumar T and Anitha S. The Temasek unit paid ₹139.76 per share, close to the upper end of the public offering’s price range.
New shares dominate the transaction
The IPO will include ₹14.28bn of newly issued shares, while the founders will sell existing shares worth ₹1.25bn. This means most of the proceeds will enter the company rather than being transferred to current shareholders.
Milky Mist intends to use part of the capital to repay debt and expand its main manufacturing facility in Perundurai, Tamil Nadu. Additional investment will be directed towards improving production capacity and supporting the company’s growing national distribution network.
Anchor investors will be permitted to submit bids on 10 August. The public offering will run from 11 to 13 August, with shares expected to begin trading on the BSE and National Stock Exchange on 18 August.
Premium dairy products drive expansion
Milky Mist manufactures cheese, butter, yoghurt, paneer, ice cream and other processed dairy products. Its strategy increasingly focuses on higher-value products aimed at India’s expanding population of young, urban and health-conscious consumers.
Greek yoghurt and protein-enriched paneer are among the product categories expected to support future growth. Demand for convenient, branded and refrigerated foods is increasing as household incomes rise and organised retail expands across India.
The company’s products are now available through more than 375,000 retail outlets, providing it with a substantial platform for national growth.
Profit rises sharply before listing
Milky Mist reported revenue of ₹31.38bn for the financial year ending 31 March, representing growth of 34%. Net profit increased by approximately 176% to ₹1.27bn.
Chief executive K. Rathnam has said the company aims to maintain annual revenue growth of around 30%. Achieving that target will require additional manufacturing capacity, an efficient refrigerated supply chain and continued expansion outside the company’s traditional southern Indian markets.
Competitive pressures remain significant
At the proposed valuation, Milky Mist would be worth slightly more than half the market capitalisation of industry leader Hatsun Agro Product, currently valued at approximately ₹202.83bn.
Indian dairy companies have faced pressure from elevated milk procurement costs, volatile commodity prices and cautious consumer spending. Shares in several listed competitors have declined during 2026, including Hatsun Agro, Dodla Dairy, Heritage Foods and Parag Milk Foods.
These movements may encourage investors to examine Milky Mist’s valuation carefully despite its rapid growth.
IPO will test demand for consumer companies
India’s market for new listings remains active, but investors are becoming increasingly selective about pricing and profitability. Milky Mist offers exposure to rising demand for branded food and premium dairy products, supported by strong revenue and earnings growth.
The success of the offering will indicate whether investors remain willing to pay substantial valuations for consumer businesses with national expansion ambitions while input costs continue to challenge the wider dairy industry.
