A Syrian plane that took off from Damascus around the same time the jihadist-led rebels captured Damascus has disappeared from Flightradar’s map.
The plane is said to have flown towards the Syrian coast and then turned in the opposite direction for a couple of minutes before disappearing.
Two Syrian sources told Reuters there is “a high probability” that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may have been on the plane and that it crashed.
Reuters has not been able to independently verify who was on the plane.
- It disappeared from the radar, possibly the transponder was switched off, but I think the greater probability is that the aircraft has crashed, a Syrian source told the news agency without further explanation.
