MANILA — The Philippines has witnessed its largest-ever initial public offering as Mynt, the company behind the GCash mobile wallet, made its stock market debut on Tuesday. The landmark listing raised ₱60.9 billion (US$967 million), demonstrating how digital financial inclusion has become a major investment opportunity in Southeast Asia.
Shares in Mynt began trading on the Philippine Stock Exchange under the ticker GCASH at an offer price of ₱6.60. The stock gained 1.7% on its first day, despite uncertainty across Asian technology markets.
The listing surpassed the previous Philippine IPO record set by food manufacturer Monde Nissin in 2021.
From mobile payments to financial powerhouse
GCash started in 2004 as an SMS-based money transfer service. Today, it is one of the Philippines’ most important financial platforms, offering digital payments, savings, lending, insurance and investment products through a single application.
Its parent company, Mynt, was established in 2015 and has transformed the wallet into a broader financial ecosystem.
GCash recorded 41.5 million monthly active users during the second quarter of 2026, representing approximately 56% of the country’s adult population. Payment transactions reached ₱9.84 trillion during the first six months of the year.
Mynt reported first-half revenue of ₱43.27 billion, an increase of 10.4%, while net income climbed 7.3% to ₱10.82 billion.
Global investors back financial inclusion
The offering attracted major international institutions, including BlackRock, Citadel, Fidelity International and the International Finance Corporation.
Together, cornerstone investors committed approximately US$500 million.
The participation of the IFC highlights the economic importance of expanding access to formal financial services, particularly among consumers and smaller businesses traditionally underserved by banks.
A billion-dollar listing with an important distinction
Although the IPO raised nearly US$1 billion, not all proceeds will finance Mynt’s expansion.
The offering combined newly issued shares with existing shares sold by shareholders. Only the primary issuance generates fresh capital for the company.
At the offer price, Mynt’s total equity valuation approached US$7 billion.
In an unusual move, eligible GCash customers could subscribe to the offering directly through the application, with a minimum investment of just ₱660.
The next test for Southeast Asian fintech
Mynt must now demonstrate that its enormous customer base can support sustainable earnings growth.
Consumer lending, financial protection, merchant services and investment products offer opportunities beyond everyday payments, but also introduce regulatory and credit risks.
For the wider financial technology industry, the listing represents an important milestone.
GCash has shown that a mobile wallet designed to improve financial access can evolve into a multibillion-dollar publicly traded institution.
The challenge now is turning that scale into lasting profitability without losing the financial inclusion mission that made its success possible.
