Trump reportedly assured allies he would avoid war with Iran, new book claims

Trump reportedly assured allies he would avoid war with Iran, new book claims

A forthcoming political book claims that US President Donald Trump privately assured close allies, including entrepreneur Elon Musk and media personality Tucker Carlson, that he had no intention of taking the United States into war with Iran. The book also alleges that Trump expressed fascination when shown photographs of injuries caused by Israel’s covert pager attack on Hezbollah operatives, offering a rare glimpse into private discussions surrounding one of the Middle East’s most volatile periods. While the accounts have generated significant political interest, many of the reported conversations have not been independently verified.

Private assurances amid rising tensions
According to excerpts published ahead of the book’s release, Trump repeatedly sought to reassure influential supporters that military confrontation with Iran was not his preferred course of action, even as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalated.

The authors claim Trump privately told Musk and Carlson that his administration would continue to apply diplomatic and economic pressure while avoiding direct military involvement unless absolutely necessary. The reported conversations are said to have taken place during periods when speculation over potential US military action dominated political debate.

The White House has not publicly commented on the specific claims contained in the book.

Middle East strategy under scrutiny
The reported conversations come at a time when Trump’s foreign policy continues to attract close examination. Throughout both his first presidency and current administration, Trump has frequently argued that his approach combines military strength with reluctance to engage in prolonged overseas conflicts.

Supporters have described this strategy as one of deterrence through economic sanctions, targeted operations and diplomatic leverage rather than large-scale military intervention. Critics, however, argue that several of Trump’s decisions significantly increased regional instability, particularly following the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in 2020.

The new book suggests Trump remained conscious of political pressure from different factions within his own support base, many of whom strongly opposed another major conflict in the Middle East.

Reaction to Israeli operation detailed
Among the book’s most controversial claims is an account describing Trump’s reaction to photographs reportedly showing injuries caused during Israel’s sophisticated pager attack targeting Hezbollah operatives.

The authors write that Trump appeared “enthralled” by the operation’s technical execution and closely examined the images presented to him during private briefings. The attack itself was widely viewed by military analysts as one of the most complex intelligence operations carried out against Hezbollah in recent years, demonstrating the increasing role of cyber capabilities and covert technology in modern warfare.

The book does not suggest Trump played any operational role in the incident but presents the episode as evidence of his interest in unconventional military tactics.

Political implications ahead of elections
The publication arrives during an already intense political environment in Washington, where foreign policy remains a major issue for voters. Questions surrounding America’s future role in the Middle East continue to influence debate over defence spending, alliances and military commitments.

Political books based on anonymous sources frequently attract widespread attention, although their claims often become subjects of dispute between authors, political figures and independent investigators. As with many insider accounts, readers may have to wait for additional evidence or official responses before some of the reported conversations can be fully assessed.

A window into presidential decision-making
Whether every account ultimately proves accurate or not, the book offers another perspective on how major foreign policy decisions may have been discussed behind closed doors during a period of heightened international tension.

Its publication is likely to fuel renewed debate over Trump’s leadership style, his relationship with influential advisers and public figures, and his approach to balancing military power with political considerations. As global tensions continue to shape international affairs, such accounts are expected to remain closely examined by historians, political analysts and policymakers alike.
