Spanish Modernist restaurant Disfrutar has been named the best restaurant in the world by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, at an awards ceremony at Wynn Las Vegas.
The restaurant, which can trace its lineage directly from elBulli and the molecular movement is helmed by chefs Eduard Xatruch, Oriol Castro, and Mateu Casañas and has been holding steady in the top three of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for the last few years. Now it has broken the ceiling, replacing Lima’s Central at the top of the list. Central now joins the Best of the Best group of restaurants that have won the top accolade and are no longer eligible to compete.
Other awards given out on the night included the Icon Award, given to Australian chef and restaurateur Neil Perry. One of Australia’s most powerful culinary forces, Perry is known for his creative vision in realising modern Australian and Asian cuisine. Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura, the chef-owner of Maido in Lima, won the Chefs’ Choice Award 2024 and Nina Métayer was named The World’s Best Pastry Chef. Wing, Hong Kong was the Highest New Entry at 20.
The list from 50-1 includes restaurants from 26 territories across five continents, with New York’s Atomix at No.6, making it The Best Restaurant in North America, and California’s SingleThread re-entering the list at No. 46.
