Argentina’s new president Javier Milei calls himself an anarcho-capitalist and libertarian and has five cloned dogs. Now he has started a “bromance” with tech billionaire Elon Musk.
- They are both loud. They are both “trolls” online. When these two people manage to go viral, they can dominate the agenda, says journalist Agustino Fontevecchia at the Foreign Office.
After months of mutual admiration on social media, Elon Musk and Javier Milei finally met at a Tesla factory in Texas on April 12.
“For an exciting and inspiring future!” Musk wrote on X, after the meeting.
- Voters see an Argentine president invited by the world’s richest man, who has the potential to generate investment in lithium and the potential to bring electric cars to Argentina. It makes the voters think that it is the president they want, says the Argentine political columnist Augustino Fontevecchia in the Foreign Office.
According to him, it is less important what is said, instead it is the fact that these two men communicate on social media that matters.
- This is how they construct political capital.
Musk’s meme about Milei went viral
The ultra-liberal Javier Milei wants to abolish the central bank, legalize the sale of organs and ban abortion.
Milei, who calls himself “el loco”, has previously hailed Elon Musk as a paragon of freedom and recently Musk responded with a “meme” on X.
