Latvia is closing its border with Russia due to “the current events” and Russians who want to leave will not be accepted. This is what Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics writes on Twitter. He also adds that there is no direct threat to Latvia at the moment.
Estonia is also strengthening its border controls. Prime Minister Kaja Kallas says she is “in close contact” with her Latvian, Lithuanian and Finnish counterparts, according to the BBC, and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo writes on Twitter that close cooperation has been agreed upon.
In addition, Poland, Great Britain and the United States have said that they are monitoring the situation closely.
