Always wanted to become a computer programmer but lacked the right skills? Artificial intelligence can help.
The proliferation of new and powerful AI tools means anyone can be a programmer, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on Monday. The ability to write code by simply issuing a few commands to an AI system has bridged what Huang called the “digital divide.”
“The programming barrier is incredibly low,” Huang said at the Computex conference in Taipei. “Everyone is a programmer now — you just have to say something to the computer.”
The chipmaker’s market capitalization has surged to nearly $1 trillion this year as businesses across industries have scrambled to embrace AI tools. Nvidia’s processors power buzzy AI efforts like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which helped kick off the current AI frenzy when it launched publicly in late 2022.
At the event, Huang announced several new AI-related products and partnerships. Nvidia is building a platform with advertising giant WPP to help create computer-generated ads.
AI has ushered in a revolution in computing, Huang said at the event.
“Every single computing era you could do different things that weren’t possible before, and artificial intelligence certainly qualifies,” he said.
ChatGPT and similar generative-AI programs have sparked fears about which types of jobs may be forever changed as the new tech takes hold. Some studies have indicated that computer programming is particularly at risk, since AI tools can boost productivity and handle some grunt work.
