- Elon Musk announced Friday that Linda Yaccarino will take over as CEO of Twitter.
- He said the NBCU exec will start in about six weeks and “focus primarily on business operations.”
- Yaccarino already has a parody Twitter account – and it’s “suspended” Musk.
More than four months after vowing to step down as Twitter’s CEO, Elon Musk has finally found someone to replace him.
Linda Yaccarino resigned Friday from NBCUniversal, where she’s worked for more than a decade. A few hours later, Musk announced her as the new CEO.
She will “focus primarily on business operations,” Musk said, while he concentrates on “product design & new technology.”
While she won’t start until June, someone’s already created a parody account under the username @lindayaccarina – and one of its first actions was to “suspend” Musk’s Twitter account.
The account, which states in its bio that it’s an “official parody account of the Twitter ceo,” already has 13,000 followers.
Per Twitter’s guidelines, parody accounts are permitted as long as they are clearly labeled on the profile.
Musk responded to criticism about the appointment, saying he believed both sides of the political aisle would find Yaccarino “smart, fair and reasonable.”
Bloomtech CEO Austen Allred said Yaccarino’s appointment could be viewed as confirmation of Musk’s “centrist” beliefs.
Yaccarino is well respected in the advertising industry, and hiring her may be a wise decision by Musk.
She interviewed the billionaire on April 18 at an advertising conference where she applauded his work ethic, and said: “Buddy, I met my match.”
Yaccarino and Musk didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider made outside normal working hours.
Twitter responded to Insider’s request for comment with an automated message that didn’t address the inquiry.
