Both of the accused women are sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Tove in Vetlanda, convicted both for murder and grave breach of peace. The decisive evidence has primarily been the information from the coroner who clearly explained that the cause of death was suffocation by strangulation.
The case:
Tove disappeared after a night out in mid-October. The three friends would go home and sort out a fight. It ended with 21-year-old Tove lying dead on the bathroom floor. The 20-year-old thinks it was an accident, while the 18-year-old claims she slept through the incident.
Less than a day after the disappearance, the police began to suspect that the two women had something to do with it. They were arrested the following day and have been in custody since 20 October.
Tove’s body was found on November 2 through information in the 20-year-old’s phone. Thousands of people had then searched for Tove both in and outside of Vetlanda. The body was found a couple of miles southwest of Vetlanda. Then it was also burnt, as the 20-year-old tried to light it on fire on two occasions.
The trial against the two women ended in March. The 20-year-old then admitted that Tove died in her apartment, but denied murder. The 18-year-old has claimed throughout the detention period and the trial that she was asleep when Tove died and that she was later forced to help move the body from the apartment to the forest.
Tove’s death, this has happened:
● It was after a night out that 21-year-old Tove in Vetlanda disappeared and was found dead two weeks later.
● Two young women, 20 and 18 years old, respectively, have been charged with the murder of Tove and with grave breach of privacy.
● According to the indictment, the 20-year-old woman allegedly strangled Tove in the 20-year-old’s bathroom. The 18-year-old must have held Tove’s hands in the meantime. The women then allegedly transported the body to a wooded area where the 20-year-old grew up.
● Both defendants deny the murder. The 20-year-old admits that she caused Tove’s death, but believes that it was an accident. The 18-year-old denies having anything to do with Tove’s death, but admits that she helped move the body.
● The prosecutor asked for life imprisonment for the 20-year-old and for the 18-year-old life or imprisonment for 18 years. The 18-year-old’s lawyer requested an acquittal. The 20-year-old’s lawyer had wanted to see a sentence lower than 16 years in prison.
● On Wednesday, the women were sentenced to life sentences for murder and grave breach of privacy.
